Rainmaker reports strong sales for Hitler: A Life in Pictures.

London, 12 October - Rainmaker Content, the international distributor that specialises in drama, factual and special-event programming, has closed a string of pre-MIPCOM sales for Hitler: A Life in Pictures (4 x 60 mins), its first co-production with Woodcut Media for Channel 4.

Hitler: A Life in Pictures, which uses archive and expert interviews to explore the public and the private life of Germany’s infamous dictator, has been sold to Canal+ Group in France, RTL Deutschland’s channels GEO Television and ntv, La7 Italy, Discovery Netherlands, A+E Networks EMEA (CEE, Nordics, Greece, Middle East and Africa) and SVT Sweden.

The four-part factual series features photos and videos from two photographers who dedicated their lives to documenting Hitler: Heinrich Hoffmann, Hitler’s official photographer, and Eva Braun, Hoffmann’s photographic assistant and Hitler’s mistress. Hoffman’s archive consists of around 1,300 rarely seen photographs, which have been laboriously pieced together and digitised from broken-glass negatives. Meanwhile, Braun’s personal photographs and home-video footage show the overlords of the Third Reich at home and at play, mostly at Hitler’s fortified chalet in the Bavarian Alps. The latest lip-reading technology has been used to bring Braun’s silent home movies to life.

Karen Wise, head of sales at Rainmaker, said: “that made Hitler: A Life in Pictures stand out for Rainmaker was its focus on Hitler’s pioneering use of imagery and branding to shape public perception — a practice that’s become all too familiar in today’s political climate. These two photographers were key to the Nazi propaganda machine and Hitler’s carefully crafted image”.

Images are at the heart of another new Rainmaker non-fiction title — Kevin Hosmann’s multi-award-winning feature doc The Album (83 mins), which chronicles the evolution of the record industry from the perspective of the photographers and art directors who created iconic album sleeves. Also showcasing internationally at MIPCOM are Reinventing Mirazur (98 mins), which documents a transformative year in the life of Argentine chef Mauro Colagreco as he finds himself reassessing and reinventing his three-Michelin starred Mirazur restaurant in France and his acclaimed ‘stateless’ food; Built to Win (87 mins), which examines the life of the legendary Grand Prix motorcycle and Formula One driver John Surtees; and Intercept (109 mins), which lifts the veil on the UK’s largest and most secretive intelligence organisation, GCHQ.

Another new feature length doc Undisputed, (1x97) has been added to the Rainmaker slate which looks at a new ‘Golden Age’ of boxing where England has seen an infusion of new talent. Directed by Joshua Marmaduke Hughes, the film looks at the breaking up of the previous US monopoly where fighters such as Muhammed Ali, Rocky Marciano, Jack Dempsey, Sonny Liston, Floyd Patterson and Joe Louis became legends.
